Heat Values

Heat Values are used to convert volumes of natural gas to energy units. The "heat value" in the metric system is the amount of gigajoules (GJs) per one thousand cubic meters (103m3) of natural gas.

Example: Multiplying 1 103m3 (one thousand cubic meters) by a heat value of 37.74 will indicate 38 gigajoules (GJs).

Definition of seasonal heat value

The heat value used to determine the daily contracted quantity of natural gas at the beginning of a contract or at annual renewal.

Definition of monthly heat value

The heat value used to determine the monthly consumption amount of natural gas as an energy value.
