Switch & Save Program

If you are currently renting your water heater from another provider or own your water heater, we have a great offer for you!  By switching to a Kitchener Utilities rental water heater, you will get:

  • six months free rent on your rental water heater
  • plus, an additional bill credit of $500 if you upgrade your non-condensing existing water heater to a condensing water heater model with a minimum energy efficiency rating of 0.86 Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) or higher

Condensing Water Heater Rebate Program

When you switch to a condensing rental water heater with Kitchener Utilities, you could get a bill credit of $500, plus you could save up to 25 percent on your water heating costs. *

To be eligible, you must:

  • be the property owner of a residential property in Kitchener
  • have and maintain a working salt-water softener in your home (if you choose to rent your tankless water heater from Kitchener Utilities)
  • are not currently using a tankless model water heater
  • upgrade existing water heater to a condensing water heater model with a minimum 0.86 uniform energy factor (UEF) or higher 
  • rebate available to City of Kitchener residential properties with an active Kitchener Utilities gas meter/account
  • rebate in effect January 1, 2025

Smart Thermostat Rebate

For a limited time, Kitchener Utilities is offering $75 on-bill credit to replace an existing manual or programmable thermostat with a smart thermostat to help manage your energy costs. Program in effect from January 1, 2022.

Drinking Water Testing for Lead Program

Kitchener Utilities annually tests Kitchener’s water distribution system for lead.  

We are looking for volunteers to participate in our in-home lead testing programThe program is simple, it only takes a short time, and results will be communicated directly to you. 

To participate in the testing, staff from the Region of Waterloo will need to come into your home to test your drinking water. Volunteers will receive a $50 credit on their Kitchener Utilities bill after participating in the program.*

Interested participants can complete the Drinking Water Lead Testing Form to see if they qualify to participate. If you have questions regarding the program, email kitchenerwaterquality@kitchener.ca.

*This is a limited time offer, one per household and available to the first 50 volunteers only.


Stormwater Credits

By taking positive action to reduce and improve the quality of stormwater runoff that flows into our drainage systems, you can apply for stormwater credits - and possibly reduce up to 45 per cent of the stormwater portion of your monthly utility bill.
