Bulk Water Fill Station

Photo of Bulk Water Fill Station

The City of Kitchener has established a potable bulk water fill station for use by enrolled contractors. There are two bulk water fill stations located at 1575 Battler Road and 22 Cedarview Place. Please note, Cedarview Place is a seasonal station available from May 1 to November 1, weather dependent. There is ample roadway for multiple vehicles, yet only one-way traffic is available. Billing for water use will be applied to your account and based on the water rates published on the city's fees and charges schedule.

To make arrangements to set up an account or receive information regarding bulk water fill, please contact 519-741-2600 ext. 4094 (telephone inquiries only please). Any other inquiries while at the fill station or after, should be made by telephone only during regular work hours - Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please note: telephone inquiries are required as staff may not be available to assist in person.

Why a bulk-water fill station?

By implementing a water fill station, the city can provide a clean water source for contractors to use. There have been incidences where businesses or individuals have been using the water from hydrants, which is unsafe and illegal. By using the water fill station, businesses can access clean water and ensure that the city's drinking water is kept safe.

No connection to hydrants

Hydrant connection is forbidden, unless written permission has been received from the utilities engineer. As per Section 902.8.1 of the City of Kitchener's Backflow and Cross Connection Prevention By-Law (Chapter 902 of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code) "No person except for City employees, acting within the scope of their duties, shall make use of municipal hydrants without written permission from the Utilities Engineer."

Section 902.9.1 of the bylaw allows for fines up to $10,000. Anyone found violating the bylaw may be subject to the maximum fine.

If you see non-city staff using a hydrant, please call 519-741-2529, and select option 3.
