Residential Energy Efficiency Project (REEP)
Now you can save money, reduce energy use, and help fight climate change when you participate in the Residential Energy Efficiency Project (REEP). REEP is a not-for-profit initiative of the University of Waterloo and Elora Centre for Environmental Excellence. REEP's Certified Energy Advisors identify how efficiently your home uses energy – and where it’s being wasted. REEP has been providing home energy evaluations in Waterloo Region since 1999.

Why should I get a REEP evaluation?
If you follow the recommendations made on your home’s REEP evaluation, you can:
- Improve your home comfort by reducing drafts and improving ventilation
- Save on your heating bill (the average homeowner who implements REEP’s recommendations saves 28% annually!)
- Help reduce smog and fight climate change by reducing your home’s greenhouse gas emissions
- Qualify for a provincial grant to reward your efforts
Who is eligible for REEP?
- Residential homeowners
- Landlords of homes, townhomes, and low-rise properties
What do I get when I participate in REEP?
You’ll receive a report that includes:
- A basement-to-attic home energy evaluation
- A customized report that includes energy-saving recommendations and suggested retrofits
- An estimate of your savings if you implement the recommendations and retrofit suggestions made in the report
- An EGH rating for your home, between 0 and 100, which represents your home’s level of energy efficiency
How much does an evaluation cost?
Thanks to ongoing support from REEP's funding partners, a home energy evaluation costs just $265 for Kitchener residents (an approximately $380 value). The Province of Ontario provides an additional subsidy for 50% of the cost of the evaluation, meaning residents will receive a cheque in the mail for $132.50. In other words, at the end of the day residents pay just $132.50 for a home assessment from REEP. Note that homes larger than 2,400 square feet excluding the basement are required to pay additional fees depending on size.
How do I set up an evaluation?
Just contact REEP at (519) 744-9799 or at waterlooregion@thereep.ca. Weekday, evening, and weekend appointments are available.
Have a follow-up evaluation from REEP
After your renovations are complete, REEP re-evaluates your home and records the improvements. This follow-up is necessary to qualify for grants - and REEP takes care of the applications for you. Call 519-744-9799 to book your follow-up appointment, which costs $145.
