You and Your Utility Bill
Your utility bill from Kitchener Utilities includes your natural gas, water, sewer and – if you rent from Kitchener Utilities – your natural gas rental water heater charges. Your account is billed monthly. A pre-authorized payment plan is available for your convenience or there are several other bill payment options. Deposits
Customers who rent or lease a residential or commercial building are required to provide a deposit for service. For residential customers, the water deposit is $50 and the natural gas deposit is $150. For commercial properties, the consumption history for that location will determine the deposit amount. Where there is no previous history, the deposit is based on square footage and usage requirements. Meter Information
We read water and gas meters on a monthly basis. Please ensure that your meter is accessible for reading at all times. Gas meters are usually located outside of the building. Water meters are normally located in the basement of a building and usually have a counter device outside. HST and Your Utility Bill
Effective July 1st, 2010 HST will be applicable on natural gas charges, rental water heater charges, and appliance service charges. Water and sewer services are HST exempt. HST is applicable on consumption and rental usage beginning on July 1st, 2010 and there after. Thus, on your July and August utility bills you may see both GST and HST charges. These taxes will be applied for the applicable consumption time frame, before July 1st GST is applicable and charges after July 1st is HST applicable. For further information regarding HST please call Revenue Canada at 1-800-959-5525 or visit www.rev.gov.on.ca.
