Roles and Responsibilities

We Deliver Your Natural Gas and Water

Our role at Kitchener Utilities is to safely and efficiently deliver natural gas and water to Kitchener residents. We are also responsible for maintaining the infrastructure of pipes, valves, and pumps that keep our community’s natural gas, water, and sewage systems flowing.

Your Natural Gas Rates

One of our key responsibilities is to make recommendations to Kitchener City Council regarding natural gas rates. Our recommendations are based on:

  • Our costs to purchase natural gas
  • Current and upcoming infrastructure maintenance costs
  • Natural gas pricing set out by Provincial and National Energy Boards for other jurisdictions.

Our goal is to provide our customers with reliable service at a fair price. Our customers have told us that they do not like widely fluctuating rates. We have listened and we strive to keep our rates consistent and as low as possible.

Keeping Your Water Flowing

The water we deliver to your home is supplied by the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. The Region is responsible for the water supply and waste water treatment. We share responsibility with the Region to regularly test water and ensure that we are meeting or exceeding the standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.

Responsible to You

Ultimately, we are responsible to you, as one of the over 60,000 customers who own Kitchener Utilities. It’s why we regularly do research to understand our customers’ views on our programs. It’s also why we always do our best to keep you informed of the legislative changes affecting our community.

We will continue to build a community-owned utility that serves the needs of Kitchener residents – and one that you can be proud to be part of.
